Cultivating Connections, Building Community

My journey in community engagement hasn't been behind a podium, but on the floor—interacting directly with people as a vendor, photographer, and technology demonstrator. From capturing moments at local gatherings to showcasing virtual reality (VR) Art Therapy and Creative Wellness tools at major conferences, I have spent years understanding what it takes for people to connect, trust, and engage.

In 2026, as digital isolation grows, the need for authentic, human-centered interaction is critical. I am now channeling this hands-on experience into a new mission: Public Health Leadership. As I finalize my Public Health degree this year, I aim to translate my ground-level insights into broader community strategies that address instability and prepare us for future health challenges.

Promotional Materials

Sponsored by Persistent Technology, I have facilitated booths and presentations at key industry events, including the International Virtual Reality in Healthcare Association (IVRHA) conference. Below are marketing materials and promotional displays I designed, photographed at recent conferences. These weren't just sales opportunities; they were exercises in translating complex technology into accessible human benefits.

Strategic Foresight

At SXSW 2024, I completed the Future Today Institute's Foundations Masterclass in Strategic Foresight. While the scope of my application has been small-scale so far, the framework has fundamentally shifted how I view community needs.

I learned to identify signals—early indicators of disruption— determine which are strong, and prototype scenarios to test potential outcomes. I have begun applying these tools to analyze local community barriers and mental health trends, moving beyond reactive problem-solving to proactive community design. This training is the bridge between my past experience in event logistics and my future goal of leading large-scale public health initiatives.

Scope of Experience

My work has ranged from:

  • Photography & Documentation: Capturing the human element of events to foster retention and community memory.
  • VR Wellness Demonstrations: Showcasing immersive tools for art therapy and creative wellness, proving that technology can be a vehicle for healing, not just efficiency.
  • Clinic Outreach: Promoting medical clinics and connecting patients with essential care resources.

These experiences taught me that successful community building isn't about grand gestures; it's about removing friction and creating spaces where people feel seen and supported.

Looking Ahead: From Vendor to Advocate

Between 2018 and 2025, I honed the skills of adaptability, inclusive communication, and crisis management in high-pressure event environments. Now, I am ready to scale these skills. My goal is to move from the exhibition booth to the community stage, using my unique blend of marketing agility and public health knowledge to lead initiatives that build resilient, connected communities.
